V. A. Harris

V. A. “Burr” Harris, 85, of Hillsboro passed away Thursday, June 26, 2014, at Hill Regional Hospital in Hillsboro. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Monday, June 30, 2014, at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors Chapel in Hillsboro with Rev. Ken James and Rev. Danny Gilliam officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Garden of Memory near Hillsboro. Visitation will be from 2:00-4:00 p.m. Sunday, June 29, 2014, at the funeral home.

Born January 29, 1929 in Prairie Valley to A. B. and Mary Etta (Yale) Harris, he attended school in Whitney. During the Korean Conflict, Burr served his country in the United States Army. For 33 years he was employed with Exxon, retiring as a superintendent of fleet operations. On January 29, 1970, he married Jimmie Adkins and they had lived in Hillsboro since 1989. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Hillsboro, Hillsboro Masonic Lodge #196 where he served as past master, Scottish Rite Fort Worth Valley Chapter, and Order of Eastern Star Chapter #769. An avid train and clock collector, Burr also enjoyed working in the yard and received yard of the month several times. Preceding him in death were his parents; infant daughter Gianna Marie Harris; five brothers; and two sisters.

Survivors include his loving wife of 44 years, Jimmie Harris of Hillsboro; two sons, Richard Harris of St. Paul, MN and Mark Harris and wife, Becky, of Woodbury, MN; brother, Lesley Harris and wife, Barbara, of Magna, UT; sister, Wanda Banner of San Antonio; two grandchildren, Quinn and Reed Harris of Woodbury, MN; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives; and friends.
