V. Williford

V. D. “Pop” Williford, Jr., 87, of Hillsboro passed away Wednesday, March 6, 2013, at Providence Health Care Center in Waco. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, March 8, at Peoria Cemetery in Peoria with Rev. Stanley Lohse officiating. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday, March 7, at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors in Hillsboro.

V. D. was born May 23, 1925 in Hillsboro to Vernes, Sr. and Nora Frances (Burk) Williford. He served his country in the United States Army during WWII, serving in the 70th 275 Infantry Division as a T/5 CPL in Germany during the Battle of The Bulge. After his service in the military, V. D. went into business with his dad at Williford’s Garage in downtown Hillsboro. He also built cattle trailers, was a truck driver, and enjoyed raising, buying, and selling cattle.

Pop married Billie O. Horne and she preceded him in death on July 9, 2007. A member of Walnut Street Baptist Church, he also attended Woodbury Baptist Church.

Also preceding him in death were his parents; son, Ronnie Williford, Sr. on February 14, 1994; great-grandson, Tyler McHam on February 8, 1994; and a brother, Don Williford.

Survivors include his son, Tony Williford and wife, Vicky, of Hillsboro; four grandchildren, J. Sean Williford and wife, Gena, of Waco, Michelle McHam and husband, Mark, of Whitney, Ronnie Joe Williford, Jr. and wife, Lee Ann, of Peoria, and Chris Tyree and Amanda Holder of Whitney; eight great-grandchildren, Deseray, Eternity, Jocelyn, Dakota, Kyndal, Kirby, Wyatt, and Sophie; and two great-great grandchildren, Max and Emma.
