Velma Dobbs Beavers

Velma Lee Dobbs Beavers, 97, of Hillsboro passed away Saturday morning, June 8, 2019, at Wesley House in Hillsboro. Visitation will be held from Noon-1:00 p.m. Monday, June 10, 2019, at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors in Hillsboro. Graveside services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Monday, June 10, at Ridge Park Cemetery in Hillsboro with Rev. Ken James officiating.

Born June 12, 1921, in the Arnotville Community in Hill County, she was the daughter of Tom and Annie (Irvin) Dobbs. She graduated from Hillsboro High School and attended Hillsboro Jr. College. On May 18, 1940, Velma was united in marriage to Clayton Beavers and he preceded her in death on September 6, 1972. She and Clayton owned and operated Hillsboro Farm Machinery for a number of years and also helped their son at Western Auto in Hillsboro.

Velma was a member of the First Baptist Church in Hillsboro, the GFWC Les Causeuses Club of Hillsboro, and the Hill County Genealogy Association.

Also preceding her in death were her parents; son, Thomas Boyd Beavers; daughter, Brenda Joyce Parks; grandson, Brad Beavers; two brothers, Jack and Edwin Dobbs; and two sisters, Ruby Derrick and Peggy McCoy.

Survivors include her daughter, Jan Grayson and husband, Dudley, of Hillsboro; daughter-in-law, Yolie Beavers of Canton; six grandchildren, Brian Beavers and wife, GiGi, Brant Beavers, Barry Beavers and wife, Patricia, Jennifer Parks, Kim Pope and husband, John, and Clay Grayson and wife, Laura; and fourteen great-grandchildren, Brandon Beavers, Brayden Beavers, Benjamin Beavers, Jackson Beavers, Patrick Beavers, Abby Beavers, Taylor Finch, Kenzie Russell and husband, Justin, Blayne Bowling, Austin Pope and wife, Taylor, Tanner Pope and wife, Cassidy, Joe Bob Pope, Kinley Grayson, and Corbin Grayson.
