Velma Lee Lindsey, 81, of Arlington died Monday, March 16, 2009, at Arlington Memorial Hospital in Arlington. Velma was born July 22, 1927 in Cherokee, Oklahoma the daughter of Chester and Fannie Dosey Garringer. She grew up in Arkansas where she attended school. She later moved to Lamesa where she met Kenneth Lindsey and they were married on October 9, 1943. The couple lived in many places following their marriage. Before moving to Arlington in 2001, they lived in Whitney for 18 years. An excellent cook, Velma was known for her pies. She also enjoyed crocheting. She was a member of Lamar Baptist Church in Arlington. She loved her family, friends, and her church dearly. Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Kenneth Pop Lindsey on April 30, 2008; daughter, Gloria Jean Smith; and five siblings. Survivors include her two children, Kenny Ray Lindsey and wife, Linda, of Grand Prairie and Sandra Lee Lindsey of Arlington; brother, Donald Garringer and wife, Mackie, of Carlsbad, NM; four sisters, Dorothy Sue of Arlington, Doris Huddleston of Dallas, Joy Schmedel and husband, Dave, of Amarillo, and Vera Bowley of Waxahachie; 6 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
