Verna Lawhon passed away on July 30, 2005 in a local Hillsboro hospital. She was the daughter of James Algie and Stella Watson Johnson. She lived in the Yates Community until moving to Bynum as a young woman. In 1932, she married Guy E. Lawhon and they lived in the Bynum area until moving to Fort Worth in the 1940's. She moved to Hillsboro in 1979, following her retirement after 25 years with General Dynamics. Verna loved to work in and care for her yard and was recognized by the Hillsboro Garden Club as "Yard of the Months" on two occasions. She was of the Nazarene faith. Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Guy on January 20, 1974; 3 brothers, Hugh, Maurice and R. A. "Buster" Johnson; 3 sisters, Jewel McNeely, Ruth Johnson and Lucille Chapman. Survivors include her brothers, Jackie J. Johnson of Itasca, Fred Johnson and wife, Nita of Hillsboro; sister, Frances Craig and husband, Maurice of Hillsboro; sister-in-law, Lillie Johnson of Hillsboro and numerous nieces and nephews.
