Vernon was the son of T. C. and Emma (Spreen) Schulze and lived in Malone most of his life. During World War II, he served in the U. S. Army serving in Japan and the Philippines. He had only recently started farming before marrying Clara Sanders on Dec. 16, 1950, at the Christ Lutheran Church in Hillsboro.
In 1961 he entered the insurance field and owned and operated the Vernon Schulze Insurance Agency until his retirement in 1999. From 1972 until his retirement, he served as a director of Germania Farm Mutual Insurance. He also served as a director for the Farmers Co-op Gin in Malone for a number of years, as well as a councilman and mayor of Malone. Even while operating his insurance agency, he continued his farming. Vernon was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Bellmead.
Preceding him in death were his parents and brothers Herbert and Raymond Schulze.
Survivors include: his wife, Clara Schulze of Malone; three children, Rayford Schulze and wife Becky of Brandon, Diane Luttrell of Longview, and David Schulze and wife Connie of Waco; five granddaughters, Amy Peavy and husband Michael of Waxahachie, Jessica Newbury and husband Lonnie of Longview, Megan Luttrell of Longview, Erin Schulze of Waco, and Bella Schulze of Waco; two great granddaughters, Kynlee Peavy and Madilyn Newbury; and several nieces and nephews
