Vertis Bay, Jr

Vertis Ray Bay, Jr., 69, entered Heaven’s gates on Sunday, October 8, 2017, at his home in Hillsboro. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, October 13, 2017, at Luke Tipton Cemetery near Itasca with Rev. Dr. George M. Demmerritte of Second Missionary Baptist Church in Itasca officiating. Visitation will be held from 1:00-2:00 p.m. Friday at the cemetery prior to service time.

Ray was born July 27, 1948 in Dallas, the eldest son of Vertis Ray Bay, Sr. and Freida Kunze Bay. He grew up in Dallas, attended local schools, and graduated from H. Grady Spruce High School. Ray was an ordained Baptist minister and worked for many years with the U. S. Postal Department in Dallas and in the grocery field in Emory, Greenville, and Waco, retiring in 2012. He was a member of Second Missionary Baptist Church in Itasca.

He is survived by his daughter, Carrie Annette Bay of Texas; son, Nathan Alan Bay of Texas; son, Jesse Aaron Bay, daughter-in-law, Gwen Bay, and granddaughter, Meredith Bay, all of Pessac, France. Other family members include brother, Lawrence Bay, sister-in-law, Esther Bay, and nephew, Jeremy Bay, all of Cheyenne, Wyoming; sister, Doris Jean Bay of Texas; half-brother, Ernest Kluck of Marlin; and half-sister, Shirley Mae Kunze of Waco. He was preceded in death by his parents and half-brother, Adolph Oswald Kunze.
