Vesta Shockey

Vesta Shockey, 92, of Athens died Friday, January 29, 2010, at Silver Springs Nursing Home in Houston. Vesta was born May 30, 1917 in Paducah, TX the daughter of Thomas Aaron and Zula Everett Jaynes. On January 16, 1954 she married Garland Emit Shockey and he preceded her in death on July 5, 1998. She enjoyed working with children and volunteered at the school reading to children. She was an avid outdoorsman and was a member of Leagueville Baptist Church in Leagueville. Also preceding her in death were her parents; two sons, Jimmy and Jerry Oakley; three brothers; four sisters; and two grandchildren. Survivors include her daughter, Jeanne Langley and husband, John, of Houston; six grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; and seven great-great grandchildren.
