Vic Mohon

Vic Mohon, 78, of Whitney passed away Thursday, August 30, 2018, at his residence. His family will host a memorial service at 10:30 a.m. Monday, September 3, 2018, at the Whitney Masonic Lodge.

Born November 2, 1939, in Turkey, he was the son of James Valentine and Olga Olivia (Meacham) Mohon. He grew up in Turkey, moved to Whitney in 1954, and was a 1958 graduate of Whitney High School. He attended college at the University of North Texas, Baylor Law School, and Texas Wesleyan. On August 23, 1963, Vic was united in marriage to Jane Elizabeth Leath in Temple. The couple lived in Waco and Hurst before moving back to Whitney in December 1982. For over 30 years, he was a claims adjuster for State Farm Insurance Company. Since 1985, he was the owner and operator of Trader Vic’s Emporium and Mini Storage in Whitney, where he worked as a gun smith and enjoyed fixing guns.

For 12 years, he served with the 36th Infantry of the Lake Whitney National Guard. A very active Mason, Vic was a member of the Whitney Masonic Lodge #355, Kopperl Masonic Lodge #292, and charter member of the Anadarko Lodge #176 and Tranquility Lodge #2000. He was the recipient of the Golden Trowel Award. Vic was also a member of the A&A Scottish Rite of Free Masonry and the First Baptist Church in Whitney.

Preceding him in death were his parents and sister, Gay Chitty.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Jane Mohon; two daughters, Jill Day and husband, Rory, and Jami Casey and husband, Leroy; seven grandchildren, Megan Gratton and husband, Ryan, Jamie Lynne Leppert, Nate Day, Katherin Day, Rachel Day, Justin Hewitt and Brittany Harrison, Blake Hewitt and Sydney Sheldon, and Kelsey Hewitt and Criss Eudy; two great-grandchildren, Bristol and Gannon; and pet companions, Weegee and Tina.
