Violet Ernestine Mullan Burson, 88, of Hillsboro passed away Saturday, January 22, 2005 at Hill Regional Hospital in Hillsboro. Violet was born July 25, 1916 in Forrest, Texas the daughter of Eugene and Sara Josephine Swain Mullan. She graduated from Sam Houston State Teachers College with a degree in elementary education. She married her college sweetheart, Robert Denis "Dickey Boy" Burson, Jr., on December 24, 1938. Violet taught school for 27 years in Waco. Most of those years were at Kendrick Elementary School. She was a reading specialist and loved to introduce children to beautiful books. She was a member of ADK Teachers Sorority and was a Silver Sister in that group. Mrs. Burson taught Sunday school and encouraged young people and elderly people in her church. Violet along with her husband attended Columbus Avenue Church of Christ many years and then attended Crestview Church of Christ in Waco. Violet and Dick Burson moved to Hillsboro in 2001 to be near their daughter and son-in-law, Bonnie and Richard Chapman. Violet left behind in Waco a beautiful flower garden in which she and Dick took great pride. Flowers, cats, and children were her loves. While in fading health, she loved visits from her ?good old husband.? Violet loved the aides and nurses at Town Hall Estates; she had wonderful attention from the staff there. While in Hillsboro, Covington Church of Christ has been her home church and she was able to visit their new building in November. She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Edna Mullan Tims; and a brother, Vernon Leo Mullan. Survivors include her husband, Robert Denis Burson, Jr. of Hillsboro; her daughter and son-in-law, Bonnie Jean Burson Chapman and Richard Chapman of Hillsboro; two brothers, Lester Arthur Mullan and wife, Berta, of Houston and Doyle Glenn Mullan and wife, Toni, of Sugarland; three sisters, Imogene Lanell Mullan Smith and husband, Russell, of Maryland, Melba Doris Mullan Conway and husband, George, of Dallas, and Juanita Daphne Mullan Garrity and husband, Rod, of West Covina, CA; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Mullan of Waco; numerous, dear nieces and nephews; special ?grandchildren and great-grandchildren? from Richard Chapman; a special friend, Robin Rhein Barratt; and a special nephew and his family, James Burson and wife, Maxine, of McGregor; Josh Burson and wife, Angela and Jake Burson and wife, Brandi, and children Korlie and Chisolm.
