Virgil Henry Kelly, 91, of Aquilla, passed away on July 4, 2016, in Hillsboro. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, July 7, 2016, at Whitney Memorial Park. He will lie in state from 9:00a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 6 at Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors in Whitney. A visitation will be held from 9:00 - 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home prior to the service.
Virgil was born on December 12, 1924, in Ranger, to Clay and Florence (Powell) Kelly. He was raised in Ranger and served his country in the United States Navy during World War II, enlisting on July 17, 1942 and honorably discharged on December 28, 1945. An electrical foreman, he worked for Chance Vought for over 30 years before retiring in 1980.
He enjoyed raising pygmy goats. He also loved camping, traveling, fishing, boating, golfing and tinkering with all types of cars. Virgil was of the Presbyterian faith.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife Carole Kelly, on August 2, 1985; an infant son, Scott Kelly, son, Chris Michael Kelly on August 28, 2011 and son, Richard Wayne Kelly on April 11, 2015.
He is survived by daughters, Marilyn McKelvey of Aquilla and Donna Wall of College Station; sister, Charlotte Mendal and husband, Dan; 6 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
