Virginia Curtis

Virginia Webb Curtis, 95, of Hillsboro passed away Friday, September 9, 2016, in Harlingen. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, September 12, at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors Chapel in Hillsboro with Rev. Mike Morgan of Magnolia, Arkansas officiating. Burial will follow at Ridge Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Sunday, September 11, at the funeral home.

Virginia was born in Peoria on February 19, 1921 to Tom Henry and Vera (Jordan) Webb. She was a child of the Great Depression, learning to be frugal and to be thankful for whatever God provided for her and her family. She graduated from Hillsboro High School and attended Hillsboro Junior College. On October 1, 1939, she was united in marriage to Percy Lee Curtis. She and Percy farmed near Mountain Springs, east of Hillsboro. Virginia not only helped on the farm during harvest season, but also found time to volunteer with the PTA, her church, and later worked at the Hillsboro Clinic Hospital. She was a lifelong member of the Presbyterian Church, having served for a time as church secretary at First Presbyterian Church in Hillsboro. Her philosophy was helping others throughout her life. She was never happier than being surrounded by her children, her grandchildren, and in later years her great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Percy Lee Curtis on August 13, 1997; and daughter, Carol Jean Curtis.

Survivors include her son, Thomas P. Curtis and wife, Phyllis, of Harlingen; three grandchildren, Taylor Lee Curtis and wife, Kesh, of Dallas, Caroline Curtis Marquis and husband, Andrew, of Austin, and Reagan Stephens and wife, Heather, of Austin; and six great-grandchildren, Jack, Anderson, and Beckett Curtis of Dallas, Webb and Sadie Marquis of Austin, and Augustus Stephens of Austin.
