Virginia Lee Herdman, 93, formerly of Hillsboro, passed away Friday, December 14th, in Weatherford. Graveside services will be at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, December 19th at Waco Memorial Park in Waco with Mr. Bert Mercer of Brookview Church of Christ officiating. Services are under the direction of Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors in Hillsboro.
Virginia was born November 23, 1919, in Lisbon, Louisiana to William Barnhill and Minnie May Enloe Rives. She grew up and attended school in Louisiana and graduated from Louisiana Tech, receiving her teaching certificate. Following graduation, she taught school in Athis, Louisiana for two years and also, for one year in Homer, Louisiana.
In 1943, she married Hillis Herdman and they moved to Waco. They later moved to Abbott before settling in Hillsboro in 1959. She served as the homemaking teacher at Bynum High School for 28 years until her retirement. For the past 13 years, she had resided near her family in the metroplex area. Virginia was a member of the Church of Christ and the Retired Teachers Association.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Hillis, in 1962; a son, William Herdman; two brothers, Robert and Reggie Rives; and three sisters, Elizabeth Holmes, Susie Alexander, and Evelyn Richardson. She is survived by two sons, Vincent Herdman and wife, Lin, of North Richland Hills and Robert Herdman and wife, Carol, of Woodway; five granddaughters; and eight great-grandchildren.
