Virginia Swilling


Virginia was the daughter of William Robert and Eula Jewel Turner Toler. She grew up in DeLeon and graduated from high school there. On July 13, 1941, she married R. T. Rabbit Swilling at the First Baptist Church in Whitney and he preceded her in death on September 13, 1999. She was also preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, C. W. Crockett and W. R. Toler. Virginia was a member of the First Baptist Church in Whitney. Virginia was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She and husband R.T. were very active in the Whitney Community. She was a member of the Whitney Hospital Auxiliary and the Eastern Star. She had the most beautiful blue eyes and was kind and considerate to everyone she met, having never missed a family member's birthday or anniversary with some token of affection. Merner as she was lovingly known was the heart of the family. Each one was blessed with her love and affection. Her other love was golf. She was active in the Whitney Country Club and played golf as long as she was able. Afer she laid down her golf clubs she was an avid golf fan watching and keeping up with all of her favorite golfers. Survivors include her children, daughter, Pat Basham and husband, Jack and son, Bob Swilling and wife, Susan, all of Whitney; one sister, Jane Cockrell of Waco; six grandchildren, Matthew Swilling, Angie Rentz and husband, Brad, Becky Swilling, Parish Basham and wife, Elizabeth, Ira Basham and wife, Alison, and Jarvis Basham and wife, Cyndie; a great grand-daughter, Elaina Rentz; and seven great grandsons, Josh, Mitchell, Garrett, Jackson, Wyatt, Joseph, and Patrick Basham and numerous nieces and nephews.
