W. H. Clements


Bill was the son of N.B. and Mandy M. Roden Clements. He lived in Hill County all his life. He volunteered for military service July 8, 1941. He made the Carolina Maneuvers, October 23, 1941. He was in the 9th Army Infantry, 60th Division, Co. K. They sailed from Norfolk, VA and made an amphibious landing November 8, 1941 at Port Lyautey, North Africa. Bill served in eight major battles. Bill was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge May 24, 1944, E.A.M.E. Campaign Medal with eight stars, Bronze Arrowhead, American Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal. He received an honorable discharge September 17, 1945. On July 16, 1947, he married Virginia Lee New. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother J. B. Clements, sisters Lilith Wise and Laura Jackie Wickman. Bill was a loving husband, son, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend. He served as Constable, Pct. #1 Hill County from June 1976 until September 15, 1998. Bill was a former Commander of the American Legion, a member of Whitney VFW, and a member of Walnut Street Baptist Church in Hillsboro. Survivors include: Wife - Virginia Clements of Hillsboro; Daughter - Arlinda Wolverton and husband Jack of Garland; 2 Grandchildren - Leighann Carson and husband John of Garland, and Rob Davison and wife Courtney of Rowlett; 4 Great-grandchildren - Maggie, Blake, Jesse and Reese; numerous nieces and nephews and several great nieces and nephews.
