W. Leo Franks, 70, of Hillsboro died Saturday, January 15, 2011, at his residence.


Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, January 20, at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors Chapel in Hillsboro with Rev. Derrell Surface of First Assembly of God Church in Hillsboro officiating. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Garden of Memory near Hillsboro. Lunch will be served in the fellowship hall at First Assembly of God Church at Noon on Thursday prior to services. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.


Leo was born February 4, 1940 in Kerens, TX the son of Sam and Merica Janie (Channon) Franks. He was raised in Itasca and Hillsboro. He served his country in the United States Army National Guard. In his youth, Leo worked at the Ice House in Hillsboro and also at Best Cleaners and Laundry. In 1957 he married Helen Oleta Dobbs.


He worked for the Hillsboro Fire Department until moving to Farmers Branch in 1963. For almost 40 years he drove trucks. He loved caring for his cats and fishing. He was a member of First Assembly of God in Hillsboro and past member of the Teamsters Union.


Preceding him in death were his parents; two wives, Doris Franks and Nancy Franks; brother, Sammy Franks; sister, Johnnie Ruth Wolfe; and a daughter, Melissa Kay Prosser.


Survivors include two daughters, Paula Day and husband, James, of Hillsboro and Rhonda Lewis and husband, Lanny, of Aquilla; five grandchildren, Samantha Day of Hillsboro; Joseph L. Lewis of Whitney; Holly Marie Webb of Hillsboro; Melissa Oleta Prosser of Waco; and Brandy Nicole Prosser of Waco; five great-grandchildren, Damarion D. Wilson, Makela Webb, Jessica Webb, Kimberly Webb, and Haley Elaine Lewis; an aunt, Margaret Higgins of Kerens; several nieces and nephews; and many cousins.


Memorials may be made to the First Assembly of God Church, 401 N. Pleasant, Hillsboro, TX 76645.
