Shortly before World War II, he went to work in the chief clerk’s office of the State Department in Washington, D.C.

With the outbreak of war, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he served in the pacific theater, primarily in naval intelligence as a code breaker. Following his military service, he went to Rice University where he was involved with the V-12 program until its closing. The couple lived in Calgary, Fort Worth and New Orleans during his years with Pan American before purchasing the White’s Auto Store in Hillsboro in May of 1967. He also provided tax preparation services for a number of years.

Warren was an avid reader and also enjoyed spending his summers in the mountains of Idaho. He was a past member of the Hillsboro Rotary Club, and a faithful member of First Presbyterian Church for more than 45 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Darlyn in 1994; three brothers, Edward, Buster, and Boyd Lyckman; three sisters, Gibert Lyckman, Margie Vowell, and Jeanette Andrews; and a great-grandson, Logan Lyckman.
