W. D. West, Jr., age 79, of Hillsboro passed away Thursday, August 6, 2020, at Homestead Nursing and Rehab in Hillsboro. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, August 15, 2020, at 3:00 p.m. at Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors Chapel in Hillsboro with Rev. Darrell Beggs officiating. A visitation will be held from 1:00-3:00 p.m. prior to the service.

William Douglas West, Jr. (W. D.)  was born on November 20, 1940, in Hillsboro, Texas to Annie Mae (Braswell) and William Douglas West, Sr. He was the third generation to live on the family farm in The Union Bluff Community and one of thirteen members of the last class of Union Bluff School. W. D. graduated from Hillsboro High in 1959. After graduating, he attended the Dallas Institute-Gupton-Jones College of Mortuary Science in 1960 and attended Criswell Center for biblical studies in Dallas in 1985. W. D. was a funeral director and embalmer from 1960 until retirement in 2005. He worked for Ed C. Smith and Brothers in Dallas and Weiland-Merritt Funeral Home in Dallas.  He later went to work for Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors  from 1968 until his retirement in 2005.

W. D. was united in marriage to Naomi Jean Slate on August 11, 1962, in Dallas, Texas. When he retired from the funeral business with 33 years of service, he was co-owner and operator of WD’s Boot & Shoe Repair in Hillsboro from 2005-2013. He was Deacon Emeritus and teacher of Bykota Class at Central Baptist Church in Hillsboro, where he was a faithful member.

Preceding him in death were his wife; his parents; brother, David Richard West; daughter, Durrillee Mae West; sons, Kenneth Elvert West and William David West.

W. D. is survived by daughter, Naomi Jane Stephens and husband, Scott, of Hillsboro; and grandchildren, Kimberly Grace West of California, Daniel Elvert West and wife, Jodi, of Hillsboro, William Thomas Stephens, and Patricia Jean  Stephens of Hillsboro.
