Weldon Frank Chris Christian, 79, a descendant of early Hill County pioneer, Endemion Baker Hammer, died Thursday, January 22, 2009 at Providence Health Care Center in Waco, Texas. Chris was born May 13, 1929 at Hillsboro, Texas. He was the son of Eugene Columbus Buck and Uneeta Carpenter Christian. He attended schools in Hillsboro. On August 17, 1947 Chris joined Company L, 143rd Infantry Regiment of the National Guard in Hillsboro. He later joined the U. S. Air Force on January 5, 1951 and retired in January 1977 attaining the rank of Master Sergeant. During his military career, he was stationed at San Antonio and San Marcos, Texas; Illinois; Florida; Altus, Oklahoma; St. Mihiel, France; Germany; Thule, Greenland; and Southeast Asia. After retirement he worked for the Hill County Sheriff's Office until Sheriff Pettit's retirement. He was an officer with the Hillsboro Police Department from 1981 through 1985. Since December 1993, he had lived in Whitney. While stationed in France, Chris married Gisele Raymonde Bontemps. In 1987 his beloved wife and mother of Bruce, Gary and Gisele died. In 1993 Chris married Charlotte Marie Broze and embraced her three children: William, Cynthia, and Jeffrey. Preceding him in death were his parents; wife, Gisele Raymonde Christian, and two sisters, Dorothy Jean Hoff and Frances Cricket Beam. Chris is survived by his loving wife and caregiver, Charlotte Broze of Whitney; children: Bruce Christian of Whitney; Gary Christian of Illinois, Gisele Schaffer of Woodbury, William Earl of Taiwan, Cynthia Earl of Hillsboro and Jeffrey Earl of Beaumont; brother: George Christian of Hillsboro and grandchildren: Jeremiah Christian, Joshua Christian, Jacquelyn Schaffer, James Schaffer, Brigette Lewis, Jonathan Earl, Karen Earl, Richard Earl, Charlie Earl and Michael Earl. Our family wishes to thank the Lakeview Volunteer Fire Department who faithfully came to assist in time of need during the 15 years after his stroke. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Lakeview Volunteer Fire Department, P. O. Box 1294, Whitney, TX 76692.
