Weldon Vernon Reinke, 80, of Malone passed away Friday, October 5, 2012, at his residence. Graveside services will be at 10:00 AM, Monday, October 8, at Salem Lutheran Cemetery near Malone with Rev. James Heiser of Salem Lutheran Church officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 - 7:00 PM Sunday at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors in Hillsboro.
Weldon was born September 7, 1932 in Malone to the late Gustav Adolph and Hedwig Hettie (Schreiber) Reinke. At age 17, he entered the U. S. Army and served in the First Armored Division. He married Edna Earl Bohanon in Waco, Texas on December 31, 1955. Edna preceded him in death on May 26, 1998.
The couple moved to Dallas in 1956 where Weldon was a barber for more than 40 years. Following Edna’s death, he returned home to Malone and was a member of Salem Lutheran Church where he also served as an elder. Having learned to play guitar as a young man, he enjoyed playing and listening to classic country music, as well as taking an occasional turn on the dance floor. He also was an avid history buff.
Weldon was the youngest of six children and was also preceded in death by two brothers, Arthur and Edwin Reinke, and two sisters, Amanda Poldrack and Elna Lander. He is survived by his daughter, Melanie E. Dixon and husband, Harold W., of Balch Springs and a sister, Esther Kunkel, of Waco.
