Wendell R. Allen, 94 of Alvarado, passed away Friday July 19, 2013 in Grandview. Graveside services will be at Vaughan Cemetery on Monday July 22, 2013, at noon with Chaplain Nancy Schnieder of Mission Hospice officiating. Visitation will be from 9am-11am Monday July 22, 2013 at Marshall and Marshall in Hillsboro.
Wendell was born November 19, 1918 in Hillsboro, the son of Walter and Bessie(Dollar) Allen. On January 2, 1938 he married Jessie Merle Kennedy and he served in the Navy during WWII. Wendell owned his own dry cleaning plant in north Fort Worth and then was a machine parts inspector for several large aircraft plants, retiring from Bell Helicopter. At the age of 10, he learned to play the guitar and later in life played at the nursing home and with friends. He was a craftsman and built furniture and lawn ornaments and loved going to flea markets. Wendell was of the Baptist faith and was a Mason.
Survivors include his wife Jessie Merle Allen of Alvarado, children; Wendell Wesley Allen and wife, Georgeann of Grandview, Beverly Horan and husband, Jack of Deberry and Cheryl Dianne Stewart and husband, William of Southport, N.C., grandchildren; Stephanie Choate, Charles W. Allen, Jay Frank Horan, David Horan, Traci Williams, and Brandon Rees, Great-grandchildren; Cody, Tiffanie, Samantha, Kevin, Jacob, Tucker, Sara, Jay, Lindsey, Taylor, Stephanie, Jesse, and John, great-great-grandchildren; Easton, Drake, Kaleb, and Anna.
