Wendell Smith

Wendell Smith, age 85, of Hillsboro passed away Wednesday, July 14, 2010, following a brief illness. Wendell was born July 3, 1925 in Osceola, TX to Earl and Irene Smith. He served in the U. S. Army in the Pacific Theater during World War II. He was a lifelong resident of Hill County and a long term member of Central Baptist Church in Hillsboro. Wendell loved spending time with his family and friends, loved bluegrass music, and loved driving somewhere just to see what there was to see. He will be long remembered for his kind and loving heart. Preceding him in death were his parents. Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Charlene Smith of Hillsboro; children, Michael Smith and wife, Martha, of North Richland Hills and Patty Kirby and husband, Clark, of Arlington; sister, Zelda Herman and husband, Max, of Wagoner, OK; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Bus Barn Fund at Central Baptist Church, P. O. Box 263; Hillsboro, TX 76645.
