Whit L. Sappington, 88, of Whitney, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 7, 2017, with his loving family by his side. A graveside service under the direction of Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors of Whitney, will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Wednesday, May 10, 2017, at Ganado Cemetery in Ganado, Texas with Pastor Ruben Castillo officiating.
Whit was born on March 22, 1929, in New Albany, Mississippi, to Lawrence Ledel and Sally Bea Sappington. A veteran, he served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He retired as a crane operator at Point Comfort and was a farmer, rancher and welder throughout his life.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Edna as well as a member of Bay Side Community Baptist Church in Olivia. His hobbies included flying his airplane, gardening, taking care of his fruit and pecan trees and being with his family.
Preceding him in death were his loving wife of 37 years, Loyce Sappington; his parents; and a brother, Herbert (Wheatly) Sappington.
Survivors include his children, Ledel Sappington and wife, Sherry of Whitney and Lanelle Haubert and husband Michael of Houston; grandchildren, Jordon Haubert, Christopher Sappington and wife, Brandy, Torri Haubert, Brock Black, Leslie Wade and Rusty McIver; great-grandchildren, Abbey Sappington, Kiera Haubert, Cody Hensen, Callie and Cailyn Wimberly, Avery Wade, Kash McIver, Bristol McIver, and numerous nieces and nephews; a sister, Aleta Clifton of New Albany, Mississippi and a brother, Hugh Sappington of Victoria.
Loving thanks to our family friend, Billy Plunkett for his kindness and patience he showed for Dad as his caregiver and friend.
