Wilbert Thompson, 73, of Singer, Louisiana passed away Sunday, April 22, 2012, in Lake Charles, LA. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, April 27, 2012, at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors Chapel in Hillsboro with Rev. Larry Davis of College Mound United Methodist Church in Terrell officiating. Burial will follow at Peoria Cemetery in Peoria. Visitation will be prior to service time from 10 a.m. to Noon on Friday at the funeral home.

Wilbert was born August 16, 1938 in Hillsboro to Nathal Hayes and Jimmie (Boles) Thompson. He grew up in Hillsboro before moving to Oklahoma with his family as a teenager. He married Janette Halford and they lived in Mangum, OK for a number of years where they raised their five daughters until returning to Texas in 1970. He later married Rebecca Reschke and they had two sons together.

Wilbert was a die-hard Dallas Cowboys fan. He also loved to fish and garden.

Preceding him in death were his parents; a daughter, Sharon Vessels; and sister, Pat Matel.

Survivors include six children, Vickie Stewart of Dallas, Debbie Blythe of Rockwall, Susan Learned and husband, Roger of Wills Point, Kimberly Muggli of Murphy, Dewayne Thompson and Christopher Thompson, both of Singer, LA; four brothers, Charlie Thompson, J.R. Thompson, Mickey Thompson, and Robert Thompson; three sisters, Mary Uptmore, Linda Thompson, and Dorothy Opry; 18 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
