William Watson Boyd, 90, passed away on Saturday, June 30, 2012 at Town Hall Estates, Whitney. No services are scheduled; inurnment will be at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery at a later date.
William was born on June 23, 1922 in Kilmannock, Scotland, to the late Robertson Hamil and Elizabeth (Watson) Boyd. He served his country in the United States Air Force from March 16, 1943 to January 31, 1946, receiving the American Theater of Operation Service ribbon, the Victory medal, and the Good Conduct medal. On March 5, 1982, he married Frankie Petterson. William worked as a store manager for Minyard’s Grocery Stores in the Dallas-Fort Worth area for many years. He moved from Arlington to Whitney in 1986. An avid Texas Ranger’s fan, he also enjoyed tending his vegetable garden, reading, and attending auctions and yard sales. William was of the Methodist faith.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a stepson, Richard Young; grandson Michael Boyd; four brothers, Jim Boyd, Tom Boyd, Bobby Boyd, and Jack Boyd; and one sister, Elizabeth Shelby.
Survivors include his wife, Frankie Boyd; six children, Billy Boyd, Chris Boyd, Mike Boyd, Jean Ann Murphy, Barbara Miller, and Jayne Bolz; stepchildren Robert Young, Sherry Pierce and Jerry Young; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
