William Fleming


William "Gene" Fleming, 84, of Hillsboro passed away Monday, January 31, 2005, at Hill Regional Hospital in Hillsboro. Gene was born July 23, 1920 in Bonham, Texas the son of Jesse and Nancy Chaffin Fleming. He was raised in Bonham. He joined the U. S. Army Air Corp during WWII in the European Theater, serving at Normandy, Central Europe, and Africa. On July 26, 1945 he married Elizabeth Sanders. He came to the Hillsboro area as a carpenter and started his own cabinet shop and later started his own lumber yard in 1953. He continued to own and operate the lumberyard until his retirement after 50 years. He enjoyed fishing and raising cattle. Preceding him in death were his parents, two brothers, and three sisters. He was a member of Central Baptist Church in Hillsboro. Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Fleming of Hillsboro; two children, Mike Fleming and wife, Brenda, of Hillsboro and Sharon Johnson and husband, Lonnie, of Mesquite; a brother, Lewis Fleming and wife, Hazel, of Honey Grove; a sister, Patricia Perkins of Everman; a sister-in-law, Gladys Fleming of Midland; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.
