William (Bill) Mayfield, 68, of Whitney, passed away on February 5, 2018 at his residence. Graveside services will be at 2:00 PM, Thursday, February 8, 2018, at Prairie Valley Cemetery near Whitney with Rev. Bobby Booth, Rev. Eddie Booth and Rev. Grady Swinscoe officiating. Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors in Whitney is in charge of the services. Visitation will be from 6:00 - 8:00 PM, Wednesday at the funeral home.
Bill was born on August 8, 1949, in Phoenix, Arizona, to Doyle and Ruby (Dean) Mayfield, moving to Mesquite at age 2. On June 14, 1960, he married Opal Booth. He joined the U.S. Army and served during Vietnam.
After a short time working at Sears, he went to work for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers working as an electrician for 28 years until his retirement in 1999. While working at the Corps of Engineers, he also served as a Hill County Sheriff’s reserve deputy. Bill also worked for Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors as well.
He surrendered to the ministry in 1988 and served as minister at Triangle Park Baptist Church until his passing.
He loved to watch John Wayne movies, build model airplanes and enjoyed tinkering with anything mechanical or electrical.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Misty Dawn; a son, William Thomas Mayfield, Jr.; and a sister, Phyllis Brown.
Survivors include his wife, Opal Mayfield of Whitney; children, Thomas Mayfield of Dallas, Billy Mayfield and Nathan Mayfield of Whitney; a sister, Margaret Ann McCallum of Mesquite.
