William Mcdonald, Sr

William (“Bill”) Martin McDonald, Sr., died on the 8th day of March, 2017, at Hill Regional Hospital. He was 90 years old. Visitation with the family of William Martin McDonald, Sr., will be held at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors in Hillsboro from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Friday the 10th day of March, 2017. The funeral service will be held at First United Methodist Church in Hillsboro on Saturday the 11th day March, 2017, at 10:00 a.m. He was born on September 16, 1926, in Hillsboro, Texas, the son of William Raymond McDonald and Myrtle Martin McDonald.

He graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1943, and attended Southern Methodist University as a Freshman that year. After attending Southern Methodist University for one year, he enlisted in the United States Navy where he served for two years during World War II. After being honorably discharged by the United States Navy, he resumed his college education and graduated from Southern Methodist University in 1949 with a bachelor’s degree in business administration. That year he joined his father, William Raymond McDonald and his grandfather, William Martin, in the firm of Martin McDonald, a department store located on Elm Street in Hillsboro, Texas. He was manager and partner with his father in that business until it was sold in 1972.

He married his high school sweetheart, Sara Ann Siddons, in 1949. They had three children, Sara Lynn McDonald Kincaid, who preceded him in death, William Martin McDonald, Jr., and Michael Wayne McDonald.

He was a lifetime member of the Hillsboro Rotary Club and the Hillsboro Chamber of Commerce, and served as President of both organizations. He was also a lifetime member of First United Methodist Church in Hillsboro and the Hill College Century Club.

He is survived by his two sons, a granddaughter, Alisa Kincaid, two grandsons, Claiborne Michael McDonald and Craig Gaston McDonald and by his wife of 67 years, Sara Siddons McDonald.
