William Coy Roberts

William Coy Roberts, a son of God, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and a man of wisdom, strength, and inspiration went to rest with The Lord on Tuesday, August, 29, 2013. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, September 2, 2013 at New Woodbury Cemetery in Woodbury. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Sunday, September 1, 2013, at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors in Hillsboro.

He was born on August 22, 1931 in Paducah, Texas. He was one of 13 children born to farmers Hassie and Luther Roberts. At an early age, he moved to California and enlisted in the United States Army in 1950. He fought honorably at Heartbreak Ridge in the Korean War.

Coy married Laverne Roberts in 1952 and was blessed with four beautiful daughters. He graduated from Barber's Barber College in San Jose, California in 1957. His second career was as a truck driver for United Transport. Coy was the treasurer of Mission Way Church from 1965 to 1970. He and his family moved to Woodbury, Texas in 1970. He retired from truck driving in 1988 and opened Coy's barbershop in Hillsboro. This allowed him the freedom to pursue his passions of God, family, friends and music. At times, the barber shop seemed to be more of a 500 square-foot Grand Ole Opry than a barbershop. At any given time you could stop in for a haircut, shave and some of the finest music around.

Coy often sang and lead the music at Towash Church in Whitney until 2010. His faith in our Savior Jesus Christ allowed him to be "a fisher of men." He said a prayer for each one of his family members every day. Some say men of his generation are set in their ways; Coy was set in God's ways till the day he went to join him.
.
Survivors include his wife, Laverne Roberts of Hillsboro; four daughters, Linda Raney and husband, Steve, of Lodi, California, Julie Mastin and husband, T., of Fort Worth, Debbie Cagle and husband, James, of Hillsboro, and Robin Bostic of Windam, New Hampshire; brother, Luther Stewart Roberts of Tigard, Oregon; two sisters, Anne Beeman and Pat Kerns and husband, Glen, all of Grass Valley, California; grandchildren, Marc Young, Hayley Tidwell, Suzanne Jenkins, Sicily Cagle, Eric Cagle, Loren Bostic, Basie Bostic, Gary Hall, and Samantha Weldon and thirteen great-grandchildren.
