William Roberts

William Roscoe Roberts, a retired salesman, 86 of Hillsboro died Sunday, March 29, 2009, in a local nursing home after a long illness. Mr. Roberts was born October 23, 1922, to Rachel Jane Pollard Roberts and Robert Henry Roberts at home in the Mertens area. He attended school in Mertens and Milford. On October 21, 1944 he married the love of his life, Nettie Mae Murray in Milford. The couple has resided in Hillsboro more than 60 years. Mr. Roberts was a salesman for 42 years, 39 of which he was self-employed working mainly in the Hillsboro area. An avid dove hunter and fisherman, Mr. Roberts raised bird dogs that flushed many a covey of quail. A nephew, Rod Rudd, tells the story about the time his uncle and aunt went fishing on a vacation with Roscoe's brother, R. H., to Idaho. Rod tagged along. The women knew he Roscoe was getting disgusted because he wasn't catching anything, so every morning the women would pray that Roscoe would catch a fish
