William Schmidt

William L. Bill Schmidt, 82, of Hillsboro died Friday, September 3, 2010, at his residence. Bill was born April 19, 1928 in Malone the son of Henry F. and Anna Conrad Schmidt. In May of 1928, he was baptized into the Christian faith at Salem Lutheran Church in Malone and was later confirmed there on March 29, 1942. He served his country in the United States Army. On November 29, 1950 he married Kathleen Daily in Malone and she preceded him in death on May 20, 1966. He enjoyed farming and ranching and he was an aircraft machinist for many years. He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Hillsboro. Also preceding him in death were his parents; second wife, Opal Schmidt; daughter, Vicki Stephanie Schmidt on October 14, 2006; and a brother, Odell Schmidt. Survivors include his three children, Teresa Kidd and husband, Earnest, of Charlotte, NC, Edward Mayfield and wife, Paola, of Quitman, and Tommy Mayes and wife, Gretchen, of San Antonio; brother, Henry A. Schmidt and wife, Lydia, of Fort Worth; two sisters, Juanita Schneider of Hillsboro and Annie Mae Stone of Fort Worth; five grandchildren, Stephanie Johnson and husband, Glen, of Texarkana, Brit'ne Cain and husband, Justin, of Colombus, OH, Danny Lee Mayo, Jr. of Hickory, NC, Thomas Mayes of Virginia, and Jennifer Mayfield of Tyler; and five great-grandchildren.
