William R. “Bubba” Upchurch, 70, of Hobbs, New Mexico, and formerly of Hillsboro, passed away Monday, July 29, 2013. Services will be 11:00 AM Friday, August 2, 2013 at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors in Hillsboro, with Rev. Billy Hackler officiating. Visitation will be 6-8 PM Thursday August 1, 2013. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Garden of Memory near Hillsboro.
William was born on Aug 14, 1942 in Hillsboro to Homer Francis and Josie May (Osborne) Upchurch. He married Lois Thornton on September 2, 1961 and she preceded him in death on March 19, 1998.
He grew up in Hillsboro and worked at Robintech, and Spartan Copper in Hillsboro for many years. William also worked at Chaparral Steel in Midlothian for several years and worked for Yoakum County Park in Denver City as park manager for 12 years, retiring in 2004. Fishing, traveling, and gardening were several of his past times. He was also preceded in death by 2 brothers and 1 sister.
Survivors include two sons; Don Upchurch and wife, Cynthia of Tyler, Billy Upchurch of California, one daughter, Tammy Barnes of Blum, one brother, F.L. Upchurch and wife, Ann of Hillsboro, two sisters; Florence Neal of Hillsboro, and Flossie Cowan of Belton, seven grandchildren; Justin, Tyler, and Zachary Upchurch, Buddy and Cierra Barnes,and Isaac and Hayley Bounds, special friend Barbara Twyman of Hobbs, New Mexico and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
