Clayton McConnell, 92, of Whitney, Texas, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, December 11, 2023. He was surrounded by family and loved ones when he received complete healing and stepped through the gate of Heaven to join the Heavenly Saints. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 13, 2024, at White Bluff Chapel in Whitney, Texas.
Clayton was born on September 6, 1931, in Clarksville, Texas to his parents, Isaac Edmond McConnell and Velma (Flanagan) McConnell. A long time resident of Midland, Texas, Clayton graduated from Sabine High School in 1948, at the age of 16. At the age of 17, he went to Odessa, Texas and began a career with Rodman Supply. In 1951, he began his career with The Superior Oil Company, where he earned many promotions and was rewarded for his work ethic, he also worked for Mobil Oil Company, where he retired after 40 years, as an Environmental Engineer. Clayton married the love of his life, Billie Sue (Bivins) McConnell on May 19, 1951.
The family expresses sincere appreciation to Clayton's care team; Angela O'Daniel, Jeannie Lockridge, Kayla Hollins, Chris Collins, Jill Minnox, Sue Turner, Jamie Braddock, and Tammy Hicks; as well as Community Hospice, Deborah Moody, as well as the residence and staff of CCRC. Their tender care of Clayton will never be forgotten.
Clayton will be missed by those who loved him, but we rejoice in knowing he is safely home.
He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Billie Sue (Bivins) McConnell; parents, Isaac Edmond and Velma McConnell; and sister, Doris Whitten.
Clayton is survived by his children, Jerry McConnell and wife Delinda of Comanche, Texas, and Glenda McConnell Bettina of Whitney, Texas; sister, Clara Gaddis of Bogota, Texas; grandchildren, Amanda Chappell and husband Jason, Kimberly Ingram, Diana Brewer and husband Kris, Kyle McConnell and wife Kayla; and great-grandchildren, Clayton Chappell and Abbie Durden, Heaven Chappell, Colt Chappell, and Kale Ingram.
In Lieu of flowers, the family has suggested memorials be made in Clayton's name to The Cuthand Cemetery Fund care of Guaranty Bank, P.O. Box 600, Bogata, Tx, 75417.
