On Tuesday, April 16, 2013, Wilma Nell Duncan was called to be with the Lord in Heaven. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 20, at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors Chapel in Hillsboro with Rev. Joe Bob Boyd officiating. Interment will follow at Ridge Park Cemetery in Hillsboro. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Friday, April 19, at the funeral home.
Wilma was born July 22, 1928 in Whitney to Samuel W. and Zuma L. (Worley) Tinner. While still a young girl, the family moved to Hillsboro. In 1944 at the age of 16, Wilma graduated from Hillsboro High School. During her school years, she routinely worked at the family business, Tinner’s Café. From 1946 to 1947, she rode the “Inter-Urban” to Waco to develop her skills at 4C College. Immediately after graduation from 4C, she began working at Texas Power and Light. The company transferred her to Waco in 1964 and she remained with T P&L until her retirement in 1987.
In 1955, she married Charles A. Duncan and in 1956 the union produced one child, Gary C. Duncan. Wilma was an intelligent, capable, determined, and fiercely independent person. She was a hard working and dedicated employee. For most of her career, during her lunch hour she would remain at her desk working while having half a sandwich. She was caring and giving, frequently placing the happiness of others above her own. An animal lover, especially of her dogs, she contributed to various animal rescues over the years. Wilma was liked by most, loved by many, and respected by all.
Preceding her in death were her parents and a brother, Sam G. Tinner.
Survivors include her son, Gary C. Duncan of Waco; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
