Winona Ruth “Noni” Grant Neal, age 90, of Hillsboro passed away peacefully Friday, May 26, 2017, at Providence Hospital in Waco. Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM, Monday, May 29, 2017, at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors Chapel in Hillsboro with Rev. John Nader of First United Methodist Church in Hillsboro officiating. Burial will follow at Ridge Park Cemetery in Hillsboro. Visitation will be from 2:00-4:00 PM, Sunday, at Marshall & Marshall.
Noni was born on October 1, 1926, in Hill County to Thomas Jack and Hazel (Hooker) Grant. She grew up in Vaughan and graduated on May 11, 1944, from Abbott High School, where she was a talented athlete, playing on the school basketball team.
On March 7, 1947, she was united in marriage to Luther H. “Jack” Neal, Jr. at his parents’ home in Hillsboro. The couple lived in Georgetown while Jack completed his college education before moving to Italy. After a time in Milford, they made Hillsboro their home. She worked briefly for Citizens National Bank, Texas Power & Light and the Hillsboro I.S.D.
She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church, where she was also a member of the Cochabama Circle. A devoted and loving mother and grandmother, her four children were her pride, joy, and focus in life.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Jack Neal; daughter, Nancy Steele; and sister, Marie McCullough. She is survived by her three sons, Stephen Neal and wife, Patricia, of Rosenberg, Jackie Neal and wife, Carole, of Hillsboro, and Robert “Bob” Neal and wife, Claudia, of Austin; son-in-law, Sammy Steele of Chatt; brother, Gordon “Buddy” Grant and wife, Mary Lee, of Burleson; brother-in-law, Edward Pat Neal and wife, Pat, of Hillsboro; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; a number of nieces, nephews and other extended family; and special care-giver, Becky Flores.
Noni was a faithful servant of the Lord and blessed her days here. She was far more precious than jewels. The Neal family would like to thank her church family and Providence Hospice for their loving care; and also a special thanks to Becky Flores for her years of tender care.
