W. W. "Bill" Siddons, Jr.

W. W. “Bill” Siddons, Jr., 89, of Hillsboro passed away Tuesday morning, November 19, 2019, at Hill Regional Hospital in Hillsboro.  Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Friday, November 22, 2019, in Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors Chapel in Hillsboro with Rosary being recited at 7:00 p.m.  Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, November 23, at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Hillsboro with Father Ouseph Thekkumthala as celebrant.

W. W. “Bill” Siddons, Jr., was born January 19, 1930, in Hillsboro, Texas, the son of W. W. “Will” Siddons Sr. and Tillie Wieser Siddons.  Bill attended the University of Texas and served in the United States Air Force from 1952-1956.  He was stationed at Edwards Air Force Base and Nagoya, Japan.  He began working with his father at Colonial Trust Company and Hill County Insurance in 1956.  He served as President of Colonial Trust for 49 years and as President of Hill County Insurance for 63 years while also serving as a Director of the Citizens National Bank until his death.

His life was laced with humility and service to his community.  He served on the Parish Council of Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church, and distinguished himself as a community leader by serving in numerous capacities including as past President of the Hillsboro JC’s, Hillsboro Chamber of Commerce, Lake Park Association, and Hillsboro Rotary Club where he was also inducted into the District Roll of Fame in 1992.  He was also honored by his fellow Rotarians as a Paul Harris Fellow.  Governor Preston Smith appointed him to the Tri County Municipal Water District in 1971.  He successfully worked with fellow business leaders to gain Federal funding to build Aquilla Lake to supply Hillsboro with drinking water.  He served on the original Main Street Board and coordinated buyers and raised funds to purchase FFA and 4H projects for decades at the Hill County Fair.  He was involved in other efforts including the relocation and restoration of the Katy Depot and helped with fundraising and construction of the original Hill County Fair Ag Barn.  He also provided donor relations and coordinated funds used to reconstruct the Hill County Courthouse which was destroyed by fire in 1993.  In 2016 he was inducted into the Hillsboro Hall of Fame for his years of service to the community and area.

He was a consummate hunter, fisherman, rancher, and outdoorsman.  Known as Big Bill in the community and Big Daddy to his family, he was a great person, husband, father, friend, and professional.

He was preceded in death by his sisters, Mary Siddons Bell and Elizabeth Siddons Duffy.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years and the love of his life, Julie Siddons; sons, Carl Sturmer and wife, Ruby, of Stephenville, and twins Bill Siddons III, and wife, Jamie, of Hillsboro, and Pat Siddons and partner, Danny Villarreal, of Houston; one daughter, Tracy Sturmer Yocham of Hillsboro; two grandchildren, Gus Sturmer of Stephenville and Shelby Siddons of Bryan.  He is also survived by one sister, Sara McDonald of Hillsboro.

The family would like to thank Dr. Teague, Dr. Seely, Lupe Mancha, the Hillsboro Fire Department, the staff at Hill Regional Hospital, Providence Hospice, and Visiting Angels who he called his personal “Angels”, for providing compassionate care, comfort, and assistance.
