Yvonne Townsend

Yvonne D. Townsend, 89, of Whitney passed away Tuesday morning, October 9, 2018, in Iola. No services are scheduled.

Born December 29, 1928, in San Saba, she was the daughter of W. R. and Edna (Clark) Dismuke. At the young age of 19, Yvonne was united in marriage to Charles Townsend in 1947. They had one son, Charles Michael Townsend, who preceded them in death in a plane crash in 1968. The couple moved to Whitney in 1985, and lived in the home that Charles built for them. For over 30 years, Yvonne was employed at Martin, Showers, Smith and McDonald Law Firm in Hillsboro as a legal secretary. She loved her time working there.

Always viewed as the “cool” aunt and uncle, Yvonne and Charles were deeply cherished and loved by their nieces and nephew. They looked forward to their visits, because Charles always had them laughing and Yvonne would bring the three girls the “coolest” little trinkets.

Having a great sense of humor, Yvonne still had her family laughing in her last days here on Earth. She was an avid reader, enjoyed learning, loved animals, and was always willing to help others.

Also preceding her in death were her parents, husband, and brother, Edwin Dismuke.

Survivors include her nieces, nephew, and other family members left to cherish her memory.
