Zanonia “Dell” Miller, 84, of Whitney, passed away on January 21, 2018, at a Waco hospital. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 24, 2018 at Marshall and Marshall Funeral Directors in Whitney with Mr. Bruce Martin officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Garden of Memory near Hillsboro. A visitation will be held from 1:00 - 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home prior to the service.

Zanonia was born on December 20, 1933, in Whitney, to Thomas and Willie (Thompson) Hornsby. She grew up in Whitney, attended school there, and graduated in 1951 from Whitney High School where she lettered in basketball. On January 19, 1951, she married Wesley Gene Miller. After high school, she went to work for Boyd Hospital in Hillsboro and then moved to Grant-Buie Hospital in Hillsboro as an LVN scrub nurse.

In 1967, she moved to Houston becoming a homemaker and raising her family. In 1977, she returned to Whitney and also to Grant-Buie Hospital working as a lab technician before retiring in 1987.

Painting oils on canvas was a favorite hobby and she painted many pictures over the years. Singing and playing guitar with her husband was something she really enjoyed as well as traveling and camping with the travel club.

She was a member of Whitney Church of Christ and also a member of the Hillsboro Order of the Eastern Star #769.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Gene Miller on May 11, 2015; two brothers, Terrell Hornsby and Maron Hornsby; three sisters, Wessie Braziel, Faye Railsback and Mary Sue Hornsby.

Survivors include her children, Tammie Dollison and husband, David of San Angelo, Donna Hamby and husband, Harvey of Houghton, LA, and Timothy Miller and wife, Betty Chisholm of Dalhart; three grandsons, Elijah Miller, Jonah Miller and Noah Miller, all of Amarillo; sisters, Betty Jo Umenhoffer of Corpus Christi and Bonnie Simcik of Whitney; numerous nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends at Town Hall Estates in Whitney.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 841125, Dallas, Texas 75824-1125.
