Zonelle McClure, 95, of Hillsboro died Sunday, December 14, 2008, at Hill Regional Hospital in Hillsboro. Zonelle was born October 5, 1913 in Brandon, Texas the daughter of George Banks and Sophie Vanilla Dunlap Lavender. She lived in Hill County most of her life and graduated from Whitney High School. She was married to John Jake McClure and he preceded her in death in 1975. The couple farmed for many years in the Lakenon, Brandon, and Midway communities. She enjoyed sewing and making quilts for all her family. She also enjoyed taking care of her roses and raising vegetables. She was a member of Walnut Street Baptist Church in Hillsboro. Also preceding her in death were her parents; step-mother, Myra McClure; and four brothers, Orman Lavender, Hugh Lavender, Minor Lavender, and Hall Lavender. Survivors include her children, Glenda Meeks and husband, Elvin, of Hillsboro and John McClure and wife, Vi, of Venus; brother, George Lavender of Arlington; seven grandchildren, Jan Machac, Diana Lee, Londa Beard, Tim Meeks, Cheryl Allison, John McClure, and Karen Hayford; sixteen great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.
